Butter Buttermilk Biscuits
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Directions:
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed unsalted butter to the dry ingredients. Use a pastry cutter, fork, or your fingers to work the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces of butter.
- Pour in the buttermilk and stir until the dough just comes together. Do not overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead it a few times to bring it together.
- Pat the dough into a 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick rectangle.
- Use a round biscuit cutter (about 2 inches in diameter) to cut out biscuits from the dough. Press straight down without twisting the cutter for the best rise.
- Place the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet, leaving some space between them.
- Brush the tops of the biscuits with the melted unsalted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
- Remove from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack.
- Enjoy
