Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups whole milk

For the Cotton Candy Frosting:

  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon cotton candy flavoring
  • Food coloring (optional)

Additional:

  • Cotton candy for decoration

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
  3. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Beat in eggs one at a time, then stir in vanilla extract.
  6. Combine: Gradually add dry ingredients to wet, alternating with milk, starting and ending with dry ingredients.
  7. Bake: Divide batter among pans, smooth tops, and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  8. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  9. Make Frosting: Beat butter until creamy.
  10. Gradually add confectioners’ sugar, then milk and cotton candy flavoring.
  11. Add food coloring if desired.
  12. Assemble: Once cooled, layer cakes with frosting, cover the outside with frosting, and decorate with cotton candy.
