Old Fashioned Rice Pudding

Old Fashioned Rice Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup white rice
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
  • Ground cinnamon, for garnish

Directions:

  1. Rinse the white rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. Drain well.
  3. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice and whole milk.
  4. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring frequently to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  5. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the rice mixture, uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 30-35 minutes, or until the rice is tender and the mixture has thickened to a pudding-like consistency.
  6. Stir in the granulated sugar, salt, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg.
  7. If using raisins, stir them in as well.
  8. Continue to cook the rice pudding over low heat for an additional 5-10 minutes, stirring constantly, until the sugar is fully dissolved and the pudding is creamy and smooth.
  9. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the rice pudding cool slightly.
  10. Transfer the rice pudding to individual serving bowls or a large serving dish.
  11. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon for garnish.
  12. Serve the Mom’s old fashioned rice pudding warm or chilled, depending on your preference.
  13. Enjoy this comforting and nostalgic dessert!
