Overnight French Toast
Ingredients:
- 1 loaf French bread (about 1 pound), cut into 1-inch cubes
- 8 large eggs
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- Pinch of salt
Topping:
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into pieces
- Optional: maple syrup and powdered sugar for serving
Directions:
- Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
- Arrange bread cubes tightly in the prepared dish.
- In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
- Pour evenly over bread cubes.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and refrigerate overnight.
- For the topping, in a small bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Add butter pieces and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Refrigerate overnight.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Sprinkle the topping evenly over the soaked bread.
- Bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
- Let stand for 5 minutes before serving.
- Serve with maple syrup and powdered sugar, if desired.
